NEW THIS WEEK...
SCIENCE ON SCREEN – FORCE MAJEURE with speaker DR. JOHN DENNINGER. Prior to the film, Dr. John Denninger will give a presentation entitled “Fight or Flight: This is Your Brain (and Body) on Stress”. The sun is shining and the slopes are spectacular but during a lunch at a mountainside restaurant, an avalanche suddenly bears down on the happy diners. With people fleeing in all directions and his wife and children in a state of panic, Tomas makes a decision that will shake his marriage to its core and leave him struggling to reclaim his role as family patriarch.
MET OPERA LIVE: FALSTAFF this Saturday at 12:30PM — Verdi’s glorious Shakespearean comedy features a brilliant ensemble cast in Robert Carsen’s celebrated staging. Baritone Michael Volle sings his first Verdi role at the Met as the caddish knight Falstaff, gleefully tormented by a trio of clever women who deliver his comeuppance. Soprano Hera Hyesang Park and tenor Bogdan Volkov are the young couple Nannetta and Fenton, and Maestro Daniele Rustioni conducts.
CONTINUING THIS WEEK...
RETURN TO SEOUL — After an impulsive travel decision to visit friends, Freddie (Ji-Min Park), 25, returns to South Korea for the first time, where she was born before being adopted and raised in France. Freddie suddenly finds herself embarking on an unexpected journey in a country she knows so little about, taking her life in new and unexpected directions. A funny, melancholy, music-laced film that surprised me from start to finish. NY Times Critics Pick and 97% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.
THE LOST KING is a British comedy-drama film directed by Stephen Frears and written by Steve Coogan (THE TRIP) and Jeff Pope, based on the 2013 book "The King's Grave: The Search for Richard III" by Philippa Langley and Michael Jones. In this inspiring true story, amateur historian Philippa Langley believes she has made the archeological find of the century: the lost burial site of King Richard III. She takes on Britain's most eminent historians, forcing them to rethink the legacy of one of the most controversial rulers in English history. Co-starring Sally Hawkins, Steve Coogan, and Mark Addy.
CAROLE KING HOME AGAIN (LAST SHOWING) — A brand new concert documentary presents musical icon Carole King’s triumphant 1973 homecoming concert in New York City’s Central Park before an estimated audience of 100,000. Directed by George Scott and produced by Lou Adler and John McDermott, the film presents the complete multi-camera filmed and recorded by Adler but never before released. Alongside the complete performance footage is the behind the scenes story of King’s remarkable transformation from a staff songwriter to an iconic artist in her own right, shortly after releasing her album Tapestry.
THE QUIET GIRL (LAST SHOWING) — A remarkable debut for writer-director Colm Bairéad, The Quiet Girl offers a deceptively simple reminder that the smallest stories can leave a large emotional impact. Set in Rural Ireland 1981, this film tells the story of a young girl, Cáit, who is sent away for the summer from her dysfunctional family to live with "her mother's people". These are Seán and Eibhlín Cinnsealach; a middle-aged couple she has never met. Slowly, in the care of this couple, Cáit blossoms and discovers a new way of living, but in this house where affection grows and there are meant to be no secrets, she discovers one. Nominated for Best International Feature Film.

Her Story Changed History
Directed by two-time Oscar® nominee Stephen Frears (The Queen, “A Very English Scandal”) and starring two-time Oscar nominee Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water, Spencer) as Langley, THE LOST KING is the inspiring true story of a woman who refused to be ignored and took on Britain’s most eminent historians, forcing them to rethink the legacy of one of the most controversial rulers in English history. A tale of discovery, obsession, and stolen glory (both then and now), THE LOST KING is a magical adventure illuminated by one woman’s awakened sense of purpose.
In the archaeological find of a century, the remains of King Richard III — presumed scattered over 500 years ago — were discovered under a parking lot in Leicester in 2012. The search was spearheaded by amateur historian Philippa Langley, whose passion and unrelenting research were met with skepticism by the academic establishment.
"A historical detective story that carries the kick of a true-life Da Vinci Code."

-Los Angeles Times
Prior to the film, Dr. John Denninger will give a presentation entitled:
“Fight or Flight: This is Your Brain (and Body) on Stress”
This wickedly funny and precisely observed psychodrama tells the story of a model Swedish family—handsome businessman Tomas, his willowy wife Ebba and their two blond children—on a skiing holiday in the French Alps.
“AN ICE-COLD KNOCKOUT. BRILLIANTLY PERCEPTIVE AND FROSTILY FUNNY.”
– VILLAGE VOICE
Dr. John Denninger is director of integrative science and clinical training at the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). He also serves as Psychiatrist at MGH, as Instructor in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, and as Senior Advisor in the MGH/McLean Psychiatry Residency Research Concentration Program.
Dr. Denninger’s work focuses on mind-body interventions such as the Benson-Henry Institute’s evidence-based Stress Management and Resiliency Training program; meditation, mindfulness, yoga and related practices; stress reduction techniques; and resiliency enhancement approaches. Ultimately, he wants to understand—at a biological level—how approaches like these are able to promote wellness and enable flourishing in diverse groups of people.
