NEW THIS WEEK...

LIVING is the story of an ordinary man, reduced by years of oppressive office routine to a shadow existence, who at the eleventh hour makes a supreme effort to turn his dull life into something wonderful. Oscar nom certainty for star Bill Nighy. LIVING sets a high bar for itself in setting out to remake a Kurosawa classic -- and director Oliver Hermanus and star Bill Nighy clear it in triumphant fashion. 

CONTINUING THIS WEEK...

THE FABELMANS is a coming-of-age drama film directed by Steven Spielberg and written and produced by Tony Kushner and Spielberg. It is a semi-autobiographical story loosely based on Spielberg's adolescence and first years as a filmmaker, told through an original story of the fictional Sammy Fabelman, a young aspiring filmmaker himself who explores how the power of films can help him see the truth about his dysfunctional family and those around him. The film features an ensemble cast that includes Gabriel LaBelle as Sammy, with Michelle Williams, Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, and Judd Hirsch in supporting roles.

BROKER — Drama/comedy written and directed by Japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda (SHOPLIFTERS, LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON). The film follows two brokers who sell orphaned infants, circumventing the bureaucracy of legal adoption, to affluent couples who can't have children of their own. After an infant's mother surprises the duo by returning to ensure her child finds a good home, the three embark on a journey to find the right couple, building an unlikely family of their own. Meanwhile, two detectives, Soo-jin and Lee, are on their trail. A MV International FF selection last September.

THE WHALE is a drama directed by Darren Aronofsky (THE BLACK SWAN) and written by Samuel D. Hunter, based on his 2012 play of the same name. It stars Brendan Fraser, Sadie Sink, Hong Chau, Ty Simpkins, and Samantha Morton. A reclusive English teacher (Brendan Fraser) suffering from severe obesity attempts to reconnect with his estranged teenage daughter (Sadie Sink) for one last chance at redemption. Brendan Fraser deserves the Oscar nom for this once in a lifetime performance.

Theatre Operations Coordinator

Theatre Coordinator is responsible for the daily/year-round operation of the film center/cinema and coordination of part-time and volunteer staff (when needed in summer) to operate the center efficiently (show management, concessions, maintenance, etc). The Theatre Operations Coordinator must ensure the successful execution of all film and non-film events on time collaborating with several colleagues. Work schedule is afternoon-nights, weekends, and some holidays: typical off-season schedule (September to June) is daily Wednesday, to Sunday 3-10 pm with occasional 1 pm matinees on weekend. In summer it’s 6-10 pm, 5-6 nights a week (we're open every night). Some deviations to this schedule occurs during the year.
