WINNER OF THE MV FILM CENTER COMMUNITY'S "FAVORITE MOVIE" POLL!
THE ENVELOPE PLEASE! It was neck and neck right down to the finish, but the winner of the MV Film Center's first "My Favorite Movie" poll is CASABLANCA. Congratulations to CAROL who wrote this in about the film: Such a classic. Most people have only seen it on TV. Wouldn't it be great to see it on a big screen as it was intended? I guess there were many who agreed.
The winner's prizes are to have your blurb projected prior to the movie, and, two free tickets to the MV Film Center movie of your choice. But, wait, there's more: to introduce the film when we show CASABLANCA later in May at the center. Congratulations to our first winner!!

VERMEER: THE GREATEST EXHIBITION
April 26th at 7:30PM
This new film invites audiences to a private view of the largest ever Vermeer exhibition, accompanied by the director of the Rijksmuseum and the curator of this Spring's ground-breaking show. A truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! In three days, this exhibition at the Rijksmuseum sold out its tickets. This is the only way you will be able to see the greatest exhibition of Vermeer.
ARE YOU THERE GOD? IT’S ME MARGARET. - First published in 1970, “Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret” is an enduring classic for a reason. This is a warm film, a good-hearted film, a funny film, with something to offer everyone. That’s so rare these days, but as we welcome the Judy Blumeissance with open arms, we need to remember it wasn’t always so rare, and the stories and characters that persist do so with good reason: They’re timeless.
MET OPERA LIVE: CHAMPION — When Terence Blanchard’s Fire Shut Up in My Bones opened the Met’s 2021–22 season to universal acclaim, it marked a historic moment in the annals of the company. Now, the six-time Grammy Award–winning composer’s first opera arrives at the Met. Bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green is the young boxer Emile Griffith, who rises from obscurity to become a world champion, and bass-baritone Eric Owens portrays Griffith’s older self, haunted by the ghosts of his past.
CONTINUING THIS WEEK...
ROISE AND FRANK — In the delightful and sweet Scottish Gaelic comedy Roise & Frank, it’s two years after the death of Roise’s (Bríd Ní Neachtain) husband Frank, and her grief has turned her into a reclusive depressive. An apparently stray dog insists upon intruding into her life. She becomes convinced the dog is the reincarnation of her deceased hubbie – and the screenplay cleverly gives her credible reasons to believe this. She names the dog Frank, and off we go, as Frank the dog guides Roise out of her melancholy.
MAFIA MAMMA — An American mom (Toni Colette) inherits her grandfather's mafia empire in Italy. Guided by the firm's consigliere (Monica Bellucci), she hilariously defies everyone's expectations as the new head of the family business. The Godfather meets Housewives of Beverly Hills is the best way to describe this crime story comedy.
THE LOST WEEKEND: A LOVE STORY - A love story that took 50 years to tell, "The Lost Weekend: A Love Story" explores the 18-month romantic relationship between John Lennon and his Chinese-American assistant May Pang in 1973-74 after he split from Yoko Ono, and reconciled with both his son Julian and former Beatles bandmate Paul McCartney.

Last Showing!
A Window into John Lennon's Romantic Life
“The Lost Weekend: A Love Story” explores the 18-month relationship (1973-1975) that John Lennon spent with May Pang, his Chinese American assistant turned lover (on Yoko Ono’s insistence). With May’s help, Lennon reunited with his son Julian and had his most artistically and commercially productive period post-Beatles – with the albums “Mind Games”, “Walls and Bridges” which included his only #1 Hit Single “Whatever Gets You Through the Night”, “Rock and Roll” and collaborated with Elton John, David Bowie, Harry Nilsson, Mick Jagger, and Ringo to name a few. Pang chronicles it all revisiting her younger self, a naïve 22-year old experiencing her first unforgettable love.
ROISE & FRANK
Apr 28th @ 4:00 pm
Apr 30th @ 7:30 pm
“While this is a twee film that leads us down a familiar trail, it undeniably warms your heart and puts a smile on your face, and sometimes that’s exactly what we need at the movies.”
It has been two years since Roise lost the love of her life, her husband Frank. She is now isolated in grief, cut off from family and community. The arrival of a mysterious dog, who seems intent on connecting with Roise, heralds huge change but is it for the better? The dog loves sports and steaks, has a favorite armchair and an aversion to their neighbor, Donncha. Roise quickly believes that this dog is her beloved Frank, reincarnated. While her son worries that his mother has lost her mind, the local community seems to embrace the idea of Frank’s return, especially as he coaches a shy local kid to become a star player and ensure success for the school team. Roise is happy once more but is there a real future for her with a dog-husband?

Margaret has been raised without an affiliation to either faith, and does not practice an organized religion, although she frequently prays to God in her own words, beginning by saying, “Are you there God? It’s me, Margaret.”
