The festival celebrates the Spanish name of our historic Gold Rush town, "Mariposa," meaning "butterfly."  Experience the magic of nature's dance as the Mariposa Butterfly Festival proudly presents its enchanting butterfly releases! Every child is invited to partake in this unforgettable experience, receiving their very own butterfly perched delicately on an orange wedge.

Imagine the joy and wonder on your child's face as they hold their precious butterfly in their hands, feeling its gentle flutter against their fingertips. It's a rare opportunity to witness these beautiful creatures up close and personal, fostering a deep appreciation for the delicate wonders of the natural world.

These special butterfly releases are a highlight of the festival, occurring on both days until we run out of butterflies. Each butterfly has been lovingly raised in our classrooms and community, ensuring that they are healthy and ready to take flight into the world.
