Terence Blanchard at the Soraya

Blanchard made history in 2021 as the first Black composer to have an opera performed at the Metropolitan Opera. Fire Shut Up in My Bones took the world by storm, and then he did it again in 2023 with another groundbreaking hit, Champion.

In collaboration with LA Opera, The Soraya commissioned a world premiere of selections from both operas performed by Blanchard himself.

Opera-Inspired Cocktails and Mocktails

In the heat of the summer, we’ve often found ourselves craving some refreshing drinks to savor under the sun. But while we could settle for something classic, like iced tea or lemonade, why not add a little operatic twist?

With our 2024/25 season about to start, we decided to showcase some cocktails (and mocktails) that relate to each of the shows on our main stage in our new season. Feeling thirsty?
