On Monday October 9, 2023, 7:30 – 9 pm, there will be a joint meeting of the LWVBAE Environmental Concerns Speaker Series and the Housing Team featuring Tim Frank of the Sierra Club.  Frank has been an advocate for sustainable development for more than 25 years; his clients have included the Nature Conservancy, Planning and Conservation League, American Farmland Trust, NRDC and Sierra Club, the State Building and Construction Trades Council of California, and the Building and Construction Trades Council of Alameda County. Support Berkeley Pow Wow

Look out: It is almost time for the 31st annual Berkeley Indigenous People’s Day Pow Wow & Indian Market! This year it will take place on October 7, from 10 am to 6 pm. It will celebrate Native American foods, arts & crafts, and American Indian culture. At 10 am there will be an Exhibition Dance, at noon a land acknowledgment and at 1 pm a Grand Entry. It will be a really fun event celebrating 531 years of resistance and renewal.  See more!

League members and supporters, please save the date for the League of Women Voters of Berkeley, Albany, Emeryville’s Fall Meeting that will take place 6:30- 8 PM on October 26th over Zoom. We are pleased to announce our featured guests that will include Alameda County Assessor Phong La, Alameda County Treasurer Hank Levy, and Berkeley City Auditor Jenny Wong. All will discuss their work to identify and/or address challenges that must be proactively managed to keep our needed public and community services as healthy and responsive as possible. See more!

Death vs. Dollars

Join us at noon on October 10th for an event that will introduce the history, role and scope of Public Health in the United States, and present where it is and where it should be. The discussion will include the public health definition, its goals and purpose, its role in the community, a brief history in the US, and how it is applied in Alameda and Santa Clara Counties.  See you there!
