Conversations in Literature with Stephanie Stiles The Old Man and the Sea 3 Thursdays, November 16, 30, and December 7, 11 am - 12:15 pm, free

Join us for a discussion of Ernest Hemingway’s Pulitzer Prize winning novella, The Old Man and the Sea, often considered his best work. This short novel, Hemingway’s last major piece of fiction, tells the tale of Santiago, an aging and struggling fisherman in post-WWII Cuba. To register call 203-594-3620.

Since its inception 77 years ago, few subjects have remained as controversial as atomic weapons. Triggering both the end of WWII and the beginning of a cold war lasting 40 years, the proliferation and possible use of such weapons has remained a major peril into the 21st century. Blood Sugar Screening, Wednesday, November 15, 1-2 pm, free

In person blood sugar screenings provided by New Canaan’s Department of Health. If you have increased feelings of dehydration, thirst, urination, fatigue or appetite, you’re at risk for diabetes. Come to this free clinic to get your blood sugar levels tested.

Life Reimagined, Thursday, November 16, 1 pm, free

An informal and friendly group discussion of who we were, who we are, and creative ways to explore our interests, abilities, knowledge, and activities in connection to the community around us led by Marcy Rand, LMSW, Adult and Senior Service Coordinator for New Canaan’s Human Services Department, and Robin Rockafellow, LCSW.
