FDR is remembered for leading the United States through the Great Depression and World War II. The 32nd President of the United States was the only U.S. president elected to a fourth term. FDR’s policies and legacy were influenced by his wife, Eleanor Roosevelt, who transformed the role of first lady.

Purposeful living promotes happiness, better sleep and longevity. Hosts Marcy Rand, LCSW, Adult and Senior Service Coordinator for New Canaan’s Human Services Department, and Robin Rockafellow, LCSW, lead an informal and friendly group discussion of creative ways to explore our interests, abilities, knowledge, and activities in connection to the community around us.

Thrust into the presidency upon the death of Franklin Roosevelt, many citizens had not heard of the plain talking every-man from Missouri. Harry S. Truman was the only president with combat experience from World War I. Transitioning the country from war to peace, “Give ‘em Hell Harry” set the tone for U.S. foreign policy during the first atomic decade of the Cold War.

Five-star General, author and two-term President of the United States, Dwight David Eisenhower served the presidency of the country during the threat of nuclear war with the Soviet Union, The Korean War, Sputnik, Fidel Castro, McCarthyism and the Civil Rights Movement .

Are you or someone you know experiencing an urgent need for mental health treatment? Help is available.

The Town of New Canaan has partnered with Silver Hill Hospital to provide New Canaan residents in urgent need of mental health treatment with a timely psychiatric assessment and tailored referral for ongoing care.

The New Canaan Urgent Assessment (NCUA) Program serves children, adolescents, and adults who are New Canaan residents with no out-of-pocket cost. The Assessment Program is available by advance appointment only.
