The Missouri State Museum's "Landing After Hours" program, is held the first Wednesday of each month at the Jefferson Landing State Historic Site.

February's program: A Party Man: Walthall Moore and the Fall of Black Republicanism in Missouri will be presented by Nathan Elwood, administrator of the Missouri Legislative Library.

Elected as a member of the Republican Party in 1920, Rep. Walthall Moore became the first Black American to serve in the Missouri General Assembly. As a pioneering figure for Black enfranchisement and civil rights, Moore faced constant hostility and resistance throughout his political career, both from members of the opposition and from members of his own party.

Join Mr. Elwood as he discusses how this remarkable figure’s tenure of service saw several fundamental shifts in Missouri politics that resonate to this day.

When: Wednesday, February 1, 2023 ; Program starts at 7 p.m. but doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Where: Jefferson Landing State Historic Site in the Lohman Building classroom located at 100 Jefferson St., Jefferson City, Mo. 65101. Enter the building on the uphill side.
