Schools and Libraries
March 3, 2023
From: Kingston Public LibraryOur featured artists in March are selections from Silver Lake Middle School seventh and eighth grade art students. The exhibit is a combination of art ranging from watercolors, oil pastels, acrylics, portrait drawing, and other mediums.
"The projects in this show were chosen to illustrate what students have learned so far this year," noted art teacher Theresa Hadley. "The projects are designed to teach students how to use different media and to have some creative freedom, usually involving some sort of self-identity."
The seventh grades were asked to create drawings from their personal observations and Color Theory with Keith Haring Characters of Self. The eighth graders were tasked with Color Theory with a forest perspective, a portrait of someone who changed the world, watercolor painting, Peter Max style with oil pastels, and acrylic paintings in the style of an impressionist or expressionist artist. Both grades also contributed portraits, with the seventh graders drawing self-likeness sketches and the eighth graders creating portrayals of individuals who changed the world.
"I hope you enjoy seeing the students' creative expression and their progression through each art medium," said Hadley.
The exhibit will be on view in the library's gallery throughout March. The library is open Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays 10 to 5 p.m. and Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 10 to 8 p.m
