A big, heartfelt thank you to everyone for supporting Kala and helping to make Art KALA 2025 such a memorable celebration! We loved sharing Kala’s 51st anniversary with all of you. Thank you for your incredible generosity! We’re thrilled to announce that, together, we raised over $233,000 and counting to support Kala’s programs and mission. If you missed the big event, fund-a-need is still open, limited edition Kala studio aprons are available for $80, and we have works to purchase at the opening bid here. This event is a collective production and thank you for working with us to bring this event to life. We are truly grateful for the joy, energy, and support throughout the auction!
Live and silent auction winnings can be picked up at the Kala gallery Tuesday-Friday, 12-5pm, Saturday, 12-pm through May 9th.

Exhibition: Feeling Language
May 17, 2025 — August 9, 2025
Opening Reception: Saturday, May 17, 12-4pm
Join us for the opening reception on Saturday, May 17, 12-4pm! Kala Gallery is excited to co-present the exhibition Feeling Language curated by Kate Laster and Julio Rodriguez with NIAD Art Center, featuring new works by over 30 artists, the majority from NIAD Art Center with additional artists from Hospitality House’s Community Arts Program, Creative Growth, and Creativity Explored. Feeling Language examines comfort and power in text, writing, reading, sharing and communications.
At the opening reception on May 17, there will be a community workshop, SONG NEST: collaborative visual songwriting with Abby Gregg at 1 pm.
Our week-long camps for children/youth ages 6-11 & 11-17 offer a safe, fun, and creative experience in printmaking, painting and drawing, sculpture, digital photography, and more.

Kala's New Class Season opens May 5th
Kala's July - December class season will open for registration on May 5th.
With the addition of Kala's Sculpture Lab that opened in March, we're excited to offer new workshops alongside returning favorites, from hand-building ceramics to machine sewing/textiles and more! Reach out to [email protected] with any questions.
Upcoming Adult Class Highlights
Saturday, May 10th, 10am - 2pm
Instructor: Vyjayanthi (YJ) Malladi
This one-day, 4-hour introductory workshop will cover the A to Z of Batik – a method of hand painting fabric using wax as a resist – in just a few hours. This workshop is perfect for artists and enthusiasts who want to understand the nuances of an ancient craft and apply it to various cloth-based pieces of their choice. All levels welcome.
Special Topics in Intaglio: Aquatint
Sunday, June 1 - 8, 10am - 4pm
Instructor: Megan Broughton
Heinz Printmaking Studio
Aquatint is an intaglio etching technique that creates distinct fields of tone within an image. Students will learn how to step etch their work during this weekend intensive, creating an aquatinted image with 2-3 shades of tone.
2 Saturdays, June 7& 14 (10am -2pm)
Heinz Printmaking Studio
In this class, students will be given an introduction to the camera-less photographic process, lumen printing. Create unique imagery in the photographic darkroom using silver gelatin (black and white) paper, found objects and light. Students will be able to experiment with different light sources and photographic papers. Students may also bring negatives to class to experiment with if they have them.
Intro to Paper Art: Creating Paper Food
Saturday, June 7 (10am - 4 pm)
Instructor: Reina Takahashi
San Pablo Community Classroom
Learn paper art techniques while making paper food! In this workshop, you’ll learn basic paper sculpture techniques and approaches to the art form. Through live demos and practice time, we’ll cover methods for cutting, curving, creasing, and gluing paper. This workshop is open to all levels.
