Two weeks left to apply - Kala's Fellowship Program - apply via slideroom! The application deadline is March 15th. Learn more about this opportunity here and start your application today. Artists receive $3,000, a one to nine-month artist residency with 24/7 access to Kala's facilities, one-month housing at the Higby (across the street from Kala) for artists from outside the Bay Area, a free class, and a culminating group exhibition in the Kala Gallery. Thanks to support from Sustainable Arts Foundation, one of the six spots is designated for a parent artist (with a child under 18 at home) and thanks to an individual donor, one of the six spots is designated for a veteran artist (one who has served in the US armed forces).

Art Kala 2023, Kala's Art Auction Benefit
Celebrating Kala’s 49th year, Art Kala 2023 brings together Kala’s creative community and features the inventive and meaningful art being made right here in the Bay Area. We are thrilled this year to celebrate Pantea Karimi, Gregory Rick, and Jos Sances as the 2023 honored artists. Jules Roman, Co-founder and longtime CEO (now retired) of Tippett Studio, VFX and animation company in Berkeley for 30 years is the honorary chair for the event.

Closing Party w/ live auction and short program – Saturday, May 13, 6-9pm

Camp Kala Summer Youth Arts Program offers your child a safe, fun, and creative experience during our week-long camps in painting and drawing, mixed media, sculpture, digital photography, and more! Our art camps are led by Kala Art Institute’s fabulous teaching artists who work closely with campers to explore and develop new art projects and artistic skills. Class sizes are small so everyone receives individual attention safely, and participants have the opportunity to learn, share, connect, and celebrate their work. Teen Studio After School (Spring)

Have your own art goals? New to making art? This class will allow your art practice to grow in any direction you’d like. If you don’t know which way you want your art to go, don’t let that stop you, we will explore many different possibilities and get inspired by various artists and styles!
Compass Drawing: Topophilia & A Sense of Place
Thursdays, March 16- Apr 20, 2023 (5 weeks), 4pm- 6pm
Grades: 6-12th

Join this 5-week drawing course to explore the concept of topophilia (strong sense of place) and how we relate to land, place, and space through various techniques with an interdisciplinary approach. Students collaborate on a collective map, collaging together their individual art pieces and findings that they gather throughout the course.
