From: Kala Art InstituteKala's Auction Benefit - Live Auction News
Art Kala 2023, Kala's art auction benefit is underway and the silent auction bidding is heating up. You can bid 24/7 online and from anywhere. The countdown is also ON for the live auction + closing party on Saturday, May 13, 6-9pm at the Kala gallery. The live auction line-up this year includes Kota Ezawa, David Huffman, Hung Liu, Jim Melchert, Masako Miki, t.w.five, and Gregory Rick - an incredible array of work by local legends and talented friends.
There are two ways to bid on items in the live auction. You can get an auction ticket on artkala2023.givesmart.com and join us for the May 13th festivities to raise your paddle in person OR you can have someone at Kala bid for you. Here's the run down for proxy bidding.
For the live auction, there is not an option to bid online, but we are offering proxy bidders during the live auction for people that can't make it to the Kala gallery. Please email [email protected] or text 510-520-6438 and let us know by May 12th noon PST if you will be bidding in the live auction!
How does the proxy bidding process work?
You would advise our auction team as to your maximum bid, and the proxy bidder will bid on your behalf up to your maximum. Your proxy bidder will try to secure the desired work for you, either at or below your maximum bid if possible.
Would there be a minimum/max price set with the proxy?
Yes, you would set the maximum you would want to bid beforehand.
Take a moment to check out all the offerings in the live and silent auction - there really is something for everyone! To support Kala's auction benefit, you can visit the exhibition at the Kala gallery, Tues-Fri 12-5pm, 2990 San Pablo Avenue, Berkeley, CA 94702; browse and bid online; And/or reserve tickets for the live auction + closing party on Saturday, May 13th, 6-9pm. Thanks for joining us to make the auction a big success!
Community Figure Drawing Session
Date & Time: Monday, May 22nd, 6-9pm
Location: Kala Gallery
Facilitators: Kala Staff
Cost: $20-$35 (Sliding Scale) + Eventbrite fee
Come draw with us in the spacious Kala gallery! We will have a model for the full 3 hours during which participants can practice their figure drawing at their own pace, work on incorporating a figure into an existing piece, or however they’d like to use their time! Kala staff members – who are also practicing artists – will facilitate the session and offer any desired feedback or support. Kala will provide drawing boards and standing easels, but recommend that participants bring tools and surfaces of their choice to the session. Kala will have limited basic materials for general use (such as charcoal, graphite, and newsprint). The session will include a series of short poses (1 – 5min) as well as some longer poses (10 – 20min).
This community workshop is open to all ages 18 and above. The figure model will be unclothed for the duration of the drawing session. Masks are recommended but optional. Space is limited - register via Eventbrite.
