Fall Exhibitions at Irvine Fine Arts Center Now Open

The Irvine Fine Arts Center is pleased to announce the opening of two new fall exhibitions: In This World and Infinite Timeline. The exhibitions run concurrently through Saturday, February 11. A free opening reception with the artists is Saturday, November 19, 2–4 p.m., and is open to the public.

Presented in the Main Gallery, In This World features artworks by Christine Atkinson, Michael Chesler, Lucy Wood Baird, C. Matthew Luther, Katie Shapiro, and Karley Sullivan that transform subjects anchored in the everyday into thoughtful, speculative, and imaginative encounters that invigorate the act of viewing with curiosity and sentiment.

Showing in Gallery 1, Infinite Timeline features sculptural works by Regina Herod and paintings by Alexandra Wiesenfeld that explore the mutability of history and storytelling. Herod and Wiesenfeld’s works share a deep consideration of the forces that define our understanding of the past and critical attention to the conditions that shape the future.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m.–9 p.m. Monday–Thursday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Saturday. The opening reception, exhibitions, and parking are free. GREAT PARK GALLERY

Beyond the Decorative: Artists Guided Tour
Sunday, December 4 - 1–3 p.m. 

In support of the Great Park Gallery exhibition Beyond the Decorative, join the exhibiting artists for a guided tour on the processes and concepts behind their exhibited works. During a walking tour of the gallery, artists will engage audience members through insightful discussions on the details of how an artwork is created from the beginning stages to the completed work. No advance registration is needed for this free event. 

About the Exhibition: 
Before the 19th-century, art served as ornament, decorating walls and living quarters. Beyond the Decorative surveys how contemporary artists are redefining decorative techniques and subjects by creating new narratives relating to individuality and self-expression through the mediums of painting, photography, video, sculpture, textile design, and wallpapers. Beyond the Decorative is on display through December 31.

Great Park is located at 8000 Great Park Blvd., in Irvine.
