Iowa has the second-highest and fastest-growing cancer rates in the U.S.

DES MOINES – Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird is blocking life-saving medical research and putting MAGA extremists ahead of Iowans by refusing to challenge Donald Trump’s attempt to cap medical research.

A U.S. district court judge temporarily blocked the Trump administration’s attempt to cap medical research in only the 22 states that filed a lawsuit challenging the plan, which leaves cancer research at a standstill in Iowa.

According to the Iowa Cancer Registry, Iowa has the second-highest and the fastest-growing cancer rates in the United States.

Iowa received more than $209 million from the National Institute of Health last year. Those dollars went toward supporting 2,579 jobs and added more than $500 to Iowa’s economy. The NIH supports a variety of medical studies including cancer research and dementia treatments.

“Brenna Bird is blocking research that could save the lives of cancer patients in Iowa and better treat people who are suffering from diseases like dementia,”  said IDP Spokesperson Paige Godden. “Public servants are elected to represent the people who voted for them, not the billionaires who have taken over Washington D.C. Brenna Bird should do what’s right and stand up to Donald Trump’s measures that prevent medical research from being performed in Iowa.”

Governor Kim Reynolds, Senator Joni Ernst, and all of Iowa’s members of the U.S. House have also remained silent while life-saving treatments are threatened.
