Statement on Fatima Mousa Mohammed's CUNY Law Commencement Speech on May 12th

HMTC condemns Fatima Mousa Mohammed's vile antisemitic and anti-Israel speech at the recent CUNY Law commencement. Her vitriolic graduation speech at taxpayers' expense to the graduating students, was nothing short of hate-filled and extremely dangerous. The standing ovation from students and staff was even more frightening. At a time when Jewish students feel unsafe and unwelcome at Universities around the country, Mohammed's anti-semitic tropes and lies about Isreal couldn't have come at a worse time.

Her May 12 speech focused on her crazed hatred of the 'Zionist' Jewish State and associated it with a fight against racism, capitalism, and imperialism around the world. It is our opinion that her hate speech ruined what should have been a proud time for both graduates and their families. Hate speeches at commencements are unacceptable and should not have been sanctioned with public funds. CUNY needs to address this matter and comment on its position on Zionophobia or phobias of any ethnic group. This has no place on any university campus. HMTC will continue to speak out each and every time we hear about these public acts of hate.
