From: The Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County

The Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center of Nassau County (HMTC) vehemently condemns the recent claims made by Professor Jasbir Puar during her class at Princeton University, which falsely suggest that the Jewish State of Israel promotes a right for Jews to maim Palestinians. These claims are not based on facts, and it is deeply concerning that Princeton University allowed such misinformation to be propagated within an academic setting.

Furthermore, it is disheartening to learn that Professor Puar had previously made similar unfounded accusations in a 2016 speech at Vassar College, stating that Israel had ethnically cleansed the West Bank and Gaza Strip of Palestinians. These false claims not only spread misinformation but also perpetuate harmful stereotypes and biases.

We firmly believe that academic institutions have a responsibility to ensure that the information presented within their classrooms is based on factual evidence and promotes an environment of understanding, respect, and tolerance. By allowing such false claims to be made, Princeton University has failed to uphold these principles.

It is essential to recognize that such baseless accusations, by their very nature, are antisemitic and contribute to the perpetuation of harmful stereotypes against Jewish people. As an organization dedicated to Holocaust remembrance, education, and promoting tolerance, we stand against any form of discrimination, including antisemitism.

We call upon Princeton University to address this matter seriously, review the content taught within Professor Puar's class, and take appropriate actions to prevent the spreading of misinformation and harmful stereotypes. It is crucial for educational institutions to foster an environment that promotes accurate historical understanding, respect for all communities, and the rejection of hate speech.

HMTC remains committed to promoting empathy, educating about the Holocaust, and fostering understanding among all individuals and communities. We encourage open dialogue and engagement in order to overcome prejudice and build a society rooted in tolerance, compassion, and respect.
