From: Historic AnnapolisLooking for some spook this October? Historic Annapolis has several opportunities to explore the traditions and stories of the past surrounding the eerie and mysterious.
These curated tours are sure to leave you looking over your shoulder for spooky spirits and fanciful phantoms!
SPIRITS OF THE PAST:
Disease, Death, and Mourning
Explore the Past
Experience a spirited tour of the historic William Paca House highlighting tales of the past: sickness, treatments, and mourning rituals. Learn of the treatment of diseases, the medical practices of the women of the era, and the contributions of the enslaved, plus learn about mourning rituals for the dearly departed. Explore physic garden and learn about medicinal plants and their use during the 18th century and beyond. At the end of the tour, try a cup of sage tea and take home a recipe for a potion!
Tours are offered throughout the month of October - including on Halloween!

Friday the 13th at the Paca House
Hear Some Tales
It’s Friday the 13th! But why, exactly, is that something to cause a fright? Join us for a special candlelit experience at the William Paca House & Garden as we explore early America’s belief in luck, witches, and magical charms. Hear how people tried to guide their fate and protect their hearth and home from dangers, both seen and unseen. Then, enjoy some seasonal treats!
This tour will be offered only on Friday, October 13 at 5 pm. Space is limited!

A Special Tour with Watermark
Step Through Time
Your spirited guide will lead you through the dark alleys, spooky side streets, and lesser-known haunted sites of the old and creaky town of Annapolis. Hear from real diary entries and newspaper articles of what frightened early 18th-century folks. Listen to stories of spirits that linger in the mist, and explore one of Annapolis’ best-known cemeteries. Also included is a stop inside historic Hogshead, where you will be immersed in the tales of those living in Annapolis during the Revolutionary War.
Tours are offered every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday through October at 7:30 pm. Additional tours will be offered on Sunday, October 29 and Monday, October 30.
