Governor Meyer Calls on Senators to Follow the Law and Take No Further Action on Withdrawn Port Board Nominees

From: Delaware Governor John Carney

WILMINGTON - On January 30, 2025, Delaware Governor Matt Meyer issued a letter to members of the Delaware State Senate, calling on the Senate Executive Committee to follow the law regarding recently withdrawn nominations to the Diamond State Port Corporation’s Board of Directors. Made in the final hours of Acting Governor Long’s two-week tenure, these nominations were rescinded by Governor Meyer on January 21 and are no longer legally viable.

“We can’t play politics with the port or people’s livelihoods,” said Governor Matt Meyer. “For too long, insiders have been cutting deals on the backs of Delawareans, and it’s time we put the best interests of the people of this state first. My order to withdraw these nominees has been in place for over a week, and it’s time the Senate joins me in partnership to move our state’s largest asset forward. This is an unprecedented obstruction of the will of the voters, and the law is on our side.”
