From: Louisiana Governor Jeff LandryBaton Rouge, LA - On September 18, 2024, Governor Jeff Landry applauded the City Council of New Orleans for securing matching funds to support the new $34 million West Power Complex for the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO).
One of the major issues identified in Governor Landry’s Task Force was the lack of redundancy concerning SWBNO electrical power. Frequent boil water advisories and major flash flooding events such as those triggered by Hurricane Francine should be alleviated when the West Power Complex comes online. This power complex is a critical infrastructure necessity for not only the City of New Orleans, but the entire Greater New Orleans region.
Under the leadership of Councilman Joe Giarusso and Senator Jimmy Harris, the City of New Orleans will match monies required by the Department of Energy to provide resilience funds.
“Since my election as Governor, we have worked diligently with the Louisiana Legislature and the New Orleans City Council to address the issues with SWBNO. Today’s announcement is a huge victory for Greater New Orleans and for citizens who have suffered for far too long because of infrastructure inadequacies, said Governor Jeff Landry. “This power project will have lasting impacts on the region for decades to come, and I look forward to seeing its completion soon.”
