President is proposing taxes on American families and businesses, driving up the cost of housing, cars, groceries, energy and more

Boston - Governor Maura Healey issued the following statement on President Trump’s pledge that Wednesday will be “Liberation Day” as he announces additional tariffs.

“President Trump claims Wednesday will be ‘Liberation Day,’ but he certainly isn’t liberating us from high costs. Instead, he’s putting a tax on American families and businesses, and it will mean higher costs on everything from housing to cars to groceries to energy. We’re already seeing the negative impacts on our economy – growth is slowing, the stock market is tanking, and odds of a recession are rising. President Trump should be focused on making life easier and more affordable for people, not increasing taxes and picking fights with our allies.”
