From: Michigan Governor Gretchen WhitmerLANSING, MI - On July 12, 2024, Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist II released the following statements on the passing of former state Representative Tim Sneller:
Governor Whitmer Statement
“I’m heartbroken to hear about the untimely passing of my friend, Tim Sneller. Representative Sneller was a lifelong public servant whose career spanned three decades as a staffer and elected official. As one of the first openly gay Michiganders to serve in the state legislature, he fought hard to expand civil rights and build a more welcoming Michigan for all. We will remember Rep. Sneller not only for his strong, bipartisan legislative record but also his character. A proud champion for labor, he loved his district and went out of his way to remain accessible to the people he represented. I am grateful I had the chance to work with him to get things done, and I was looking forward to partnering with him again as he was running for a seat in the House. My thoughts are with Tim’s loved ones and all of us who were lucky enough to call him a friend and colleague.”
Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist II Statement
“Representative Tim Sneller was a committed public servant and proud son of Flint who loved his community and worked hard to deliver real change for Michiganders during his long career as a substitute teacher, staffer, and state representative. I had the honor of working with Rep. Sneller to enact recommendations of the Michigan Joint Task Force for Jail and Pretrial Incarceration, and on this and many other issues, he leaves a legacy that inspires us all. My heart goes out to Tim’s family during this difficult time.”
