Overdrive & Libby apps

OverDrive is discontinuing the legacy OverDrive app for iOS, Android, and Windows 8/10 on May 1, and transitioning users to the Libby app. It’s time to give Libby a try! All your loans, holds, and wish list items will be waiting for you in Libby when you add your library card. More information can be found here.

Early Closure 

The Library will be closing at 7PM on Monday, May 1 in order for our staff and patrons to attend Town Meeting.

Art Exhibit and Reception: Jude Abbe

The Library is pleased to exhibit artist Jude Abbe's work for the months of April and May. There will be an artist reception held on Monday, May 22 at 7PM.

Holiday Closure 

The Library will be closed on Saturday, May 27 and Monday, May 29 in observance of the Memorial Day weekend. The Library will reopen on Tuesday, May 30 at 10AM.

Upcoming Events

Bouncing Books & Babies
Tuesdays at 10AM until Tuesday, May 23

Ages 6 months to 2 1/2 years
Program will include two to three books, songs, finger-plays, and circle games.

Teen Event: Dungeons & Dragons
For those in grades 7-12!
Wednesdays, May 3, 17, and 31 at 3PM

Join us for adventure!  Everything you need to play is provided, all you have to do is show up.  All skill levels are welcome. Max 6 players per session, first come, first served.

What's Wrong With My House Plant?
Thursday, May 4 at 2PM

As with our outdoor gardens, many things can go wrong when you grow plants indoors. Learn the factors that make for happy houseplants, including light, water, and soil…and how to provide them. Common houseplant pests and diseases are also on the agenda, as well as how to treat them. Register online.

Teen Event: Crafternoon
For those in grades 7-12!

Come to the library and work on a fun, creative project or take the project home with you! Projects are announced on our Instagram account, so make sure you follow @GPLYA

Family Story Time
Fridays at 10AM until Friday, May 26

All ages! Three to four books will be read. Children and parents will also participate in songs, finger-plays, and a simple craft.

Tinker Play Group
Thursday, May 11 at 10AM

Families with children ages 2 and up. Materials will include STEM and sensory items for younger children based on the books Loose Parts by Lisa Daly and Miriam Beloglovsky and other preschool STEM resources. Kids will have an opportunity to explore the materials at their own pace while interacting with their adults and peers.

Goats Library Tour - Meet the Goats!
Thursday, May 11 at 10:45AM

Join Goats to Go for a visit with the goats at the library. Come pet some goats and ask some questions! This event will take place outdoors on the library lawn and is weather dependent.

De-Stress with Dogs
Friday, May 12 at 3PM

Come hang out with some great dogs for a few chill hours!

Teen Event: GPL Arcade
For those in grades 7-12!
Monday, May 15 at 3PM

Come hang as we turn the Library into a gaming paradise!  There’s nothing quite like playing the Switch on our giant projector screen!

Reading to a Library Dog
Monday, May 15 at 4PM

Come and read to Aston, a certified therapy dog. Registration is required. This program is designed to help develop reading skills and is recommended for children who want to practice their reading fluency. 

Pajama Story Time
Wednesday, May 17 at 6:45PM

Come to the library for a fun evening!  3-4 books, songs, rhymes and a quiet activity will be offered.  Wearing pajamas is encouraged.  This program is for all ages.

Teen Event: Painting Happy Lil Minis
For those in grades 7-12!
Wednesday, May 24 at 3PM

Join Teen Librarian Kyle Coston as he teaches you how to paint a nighthaunt ghost!  All materials provided.

Author Charlotte McConaghy
Thursday, May 25 at 7PM

Join us for a virtual visit with author Charlotte McConaghy, author of Migrations. The conversation will be led by Meena Jain, Director of the Ashland Public Library in Ashland, MA. Register online.

50+ Job Seekers Networking Group
January to June 2023

More than 60 Massachusetts public libraries have partnered to offer this program to support people fifty years and older looking for a new job, a new career direction, or a Second Act career. StoryWalk® Grand Opening Celebration

Saturday, May 6 at 10AM

Join us as we celebrate the opening of the permanent StoryWalk® with some brief remarks, a ribbon cutting, a chance to meet four local children's authors (Maggie Van Galen, Paul Janson, Dyan deNapoli, and Donna Seim), and the opportunity to travel the new StoryWalk® path.

The Friends will be offering some light refreshments during this celebration. This event will take place rain or shine!
