I encourage you to visit Lyonel Feininger: Von der Stadt am Ende der Welt bis zur Ostsee (From the City at the Edge of the World to the Baltic Sea), an exhibition featuring some 70 works by Lyonel Feininger (1871-1956) opening Friday, March 14, at the Stiftung Ahlers Pro Arte in Herford, Germany.

This is a special opportunity to see works by the artist drawn mostly from private collections. Curated by the respected Feininger scholar Ulrich Luckhardt, it offers an overview of the artist’s oeuvre, opening with his early caricatures for the German weeklies, moving through compositions centered on his beloved Thuringian villages and Baltic Sea, and closing with his late work, made after his return to his native New York in 1937.
