Bob Dilworth: When I Remembered Home

Now through January 12, 2025

Our fall exhibition features the vibrantly colored, richly layered, monumental portraits of Bob Dilworth. Dilworth incorporates layers of paint, paper, and fabric to create images that merge portraiture, landscape, and abstraction into tender representations of the people and places he loves. Recently, Dilworth has been inspired by the challenges and possibilities of fabric as a primary medium and the Fitchburg Art Museum is proud to present this new work together for the first time.

G.O.A.T.: The Sports Photography of Walter Iooss

Now through January 5, 2025

G.O.A.T.—meaning “greatest of all time”—highlights the Fitchburg Art Museum’s expansive collection of sports photography by Walter Iooss.

Iooss photographed professional sports with the passion and perception of a true fan, capturing iconic moments in sports history for over sixty years. His ability to read a game and identify player strategy allowed him to photograph jump shots, home run swings, and end zone catches with cinematic flair—a skill that earned him over 300 Sports Illustrated covers.

Over his career, Iooss photographed some of the greatest athletes of the 20th century, shaping the visual culture of American sports and with it the celebrity status of players including Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Tiger Woods, and Derek Jeter. G.O.A.T. considers how Iooss captured the joys, devastations, pressures, and anticipations of professional sports using light, movement, and color to craft visual narratives that continue to

captivate us.

Fitchburg Public School: Telling Stories Summer Camp at FAM

November 4, 2024 – January 5, 2025

Fitchburg Art Museum and the Fitchburg Public Schools 21st Century Program have partnered together to create art experiences for students attending Summer Camp and afterschool programs. With the continuation of our “Storytelling Through Art” theme, students had the unique opportunity to learn about art making in the museum’s Art Place on Elm and in the galleries. In our program students viewed past or current exhibitions, developed foundations of art-making practices, and even created photographs with support from Visiting Artist George Annan (FAM exhibiting artist from Dialogues, Diasporas, and Detours Through Africa 2024). Student works in the Community Gallery are on view from November 2024 through January 2025.

The Community Gallery is supported by a generous gift from Dr.Roderick and Donna Lewin.
