Collaboration, Social Justice, and Professional Empowerment: A Workshop for Writers & Artists

Kristina Marie Darling

8-Week Asynchronous Workshop

Poetry & the Apocalypse

Paul Guest

1-Week Asynchronous Workshop

Poetry

In this workshop, we will explore writing poems about current issues such as global warming, walls, guns, oceans filled with plastic, and how to balance the personal and political aspects. We will read and respond to poems by various poets, including Ada Limón, Terrance Hayes, Victoria Chang, and Mark Doty.

The Poem's Intention

Rebecca Seiferle

4-Week Asynchronous Workshop

Poetry

In this workshop, we believe that the extraneous materials in a poem, recognizable by the language's liveliness or difficulty, mark the poem's authentic appearance. We will learn to recognize and revise them to make our work more lively. Bring your 'problem' poems; we will have writing exercises to generate new work.

Nuts & Bolts from our 24PearlStreet Faculty

We asked poet, translator, and editor Rebecca Seiferle, author of Wild Tongue, for a writing prompt for our community.

To dive into deeper currents in your work: do a page of free writing or find a poem draft that you’ve left unfinished. Focus on the most difficult or wildest or most puzzling image or phrase. Use that image or phrase as the beginning for a new piece, a way of opening the previous draft to its overlooked possibilities.
