In America, I learnt that one can snap
a rubber band against one’s wrist
each time one’s hand reaches up
towards the mouth
By the back of my hand
the rubber band disappears
into the color of my skin
but when I turn and face the inner side
it is a clear division
of my body

24PearlStreet // A Workshop for Every Kind of Writer
The 24PearlStreet program is rooted in the Fine Arts Work Center's commitment to nurturing creative connections and supporting artistic freedom.
By choosing to register for a workshop, you join students who work full-time or simply write from the comfort of their homes. Our participants regularly share with us how meaningful it is to join these supportive workshop communities, cultivated by our dedicated faculty, where they are able to create some of their best work through our online learning portal.
Practice Makes Perfect: Writing & Rewriting
February 13 - March 10, 2023
4 week asynchronous, Fiction
Albert acknowledges how the finish line (in writing) is rarely a linear journey, and the process is usually more interesting than the final product. In this workshop, you will get comfortable with confronting unknowns, questioning your creative desires and pushing yourself to engage more rigorously with what's on—and off—the page.
Ekphrastic Writing – LIVE
February 20 - 24, 2023
1 week Live, Poetry
This class will be a week of immersion in ekphrastic writing (writing about, or inspired by, art). Students will read great examples of ekphrastic work by other writers together and experiment and create their own pieces.
Praise in Hard Times
February 20 - 24, 2023
1 week Live, Poetry
In this generative workshop, students will look to poems that praise the erotic, the mundane, the difficult, and the divine as they write their own (fully, painfully) aware poems of celebration and ecstasy.
Structuring Your Novel
February 27 - March 3, 2023
1 week asynchronous, Fiction
In this craft workshop, students will talk about the major “beats” that take place in a great majority of the novels that people read and why they’re important, so that they can end up with their own concrete “beat sheet” or roadmap for their novel.
