Join us for our fifth annual Festival Under the Stars in downtown Naples Cambier Park. Our two-week outdoor opera festival includes The Magic Flute, La bohème, The Mikado and more!

Thursday February 27th, 2025

7:00 pm: The Luciano Pavarotti Foundation Pavarotti Voices Concert

Stars from the Luciano Pavarotti Foundation Opera Naples International Voice Competition will take the stage on opening night of the 2025 Opera Naples Festival Under the Stars! This exceptional concert marks the beginning of a spectacular festival, showcasing the talents of some of the world's most gifted vocalists. Nicoletta Pavarotti, president of the Luciano Pavarotti Foundation, will graciously host the event.

7pm: The Magic Flute

THE MAGIC FLUTE by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

The Magic Flute is a fantastical opera that follows the adventures of Prince Tamino and the bird-catcher Papageno. They are on a quest to rescue Pamina, the daughter of the Queen of the Night, who has been kidnapped by the high priest Sarastro. Tamino and Papageno are given magical instruments—a flute and bells—that help them overcome various trials. Along the way, Tamino learns that Sarastro is a benevolent leader, and the Queen of the Night is the true villain. Through their journey, Tamino and Pamina not only discover the power of love and wisdom, but also the transformative effect of these virtues, ultimately joining Sarastro's enlightened community. It’s a tale of courage, love and the ultimate triumph of good over evil, a victory that resonates with the audience long after the final curtain falls. Sung in German with English surtitles.

7:00 pm: The Luciano Pavarotti Foundation Celebrates Luciano’s 90th Anniversary: Reflections from Nicoletta Pavarotti

As the world celebrates the 90th anniversary of Luciano Pavarotti’s birth in 2025, President of the Luciano Pavarotti Foundation Nicoletta Pavarotti shares details from her life with the famed tenor. Hear about her adventures with her late husband, including her legendary management of the Pavarotti & Friends benefit concerts, as well as her most recent professional accomplishments and pursuits.

7pm: La Bohème

La bohème is a timeless opera by Giacomo Puccini that tells the story of young bohemians living in Paris. The plot revolves around four friends: Rodolfo, a poet; Marcello, a painter; Colline, a philosopher; and Schaunard, a musician. They struggle with poverty but find joy in their art and friendship. One Christmas Eve, Mimi, a seamstress, knocks on their door, looking for a light for her candle. She and Rodolfo fall in love instantly. However, their happiness is overshadowed by Mimi's illness and the harsh realities of their impoverished lives. The opera beautifully captures their fleeting moments of joy and the inevitable tragedy that follows. It's a poignant tale of love, loss and the enduring spirit of youth. Sung in Italian with English surtitles.

The Mikado is a comic opera by Gilbert and Sullivan set in the fictional Japanese town of Titipu. The story follows Nanki-Poo, the son of the Mikado (the emperor), who has fled to avoid marrying an older woman named Katisha. In Titipu, he falls in love with Yum-Yum, who is already engaged to Ko-Ko, the new Lord High Executioner. When the Mikado orders an execution to take place, Nanki-Poo and Ko-Ko devise a plan to avoid anyone losing their head. However, complications arise when Katisha arrives to expose Nanki-Poo’s true identity. Through a series of humorous and satirical twists, the characters navigate their way to a happy resolution. It’s a delightful tale filled with wit, romance and clever social commentary. Sung in English.

2pm & 6pm: Sleeping Beauty with Gulfshore Ballet

Join Gulfshore Ballet as they present Sleeping Beauty, renowned as a masterpiece of music, dance and storytelling. Composed by Tchaikovsky in 1889, it is a testament to his genius and a showcase for a dancer’s technical skill. The ballet follows the fairy tale romance of Princess Aurora and her Prince Phillip, with a score that took Tchaikovsky just 40 days to complete.
