Festival mozaic and the slo movement arts collective lead a family friendly performance of aaron copland's ballet appalachian spring. This concert is open for all ages will last under one hour without an intermission.

To celebrate the opening of the 2023 summer music festival scott yoo and the festival musicians will join forces with the movement arts collective for a new setting of copland's appalachian spring, choreographed by ryan lawrence. Also on the program are beethoven’s spring sonata for violin and piano, a duet for violin and viola by czech composer martinu, and a work for voice and strings by korean-american composer and scott yoo’s professor at harvard, earl kim.

After appearing on the festival mozaic & slo brew rock late night series in 2022, americana singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist rachel baiman returns to festival mozaic to headline this show at see canyon fruit ranch! Rachel was raised in chicago and has been recording and touring internationally with 10 string symphony, winnipeg folk band oh my darling, and kacey musgraves. With her 2017 debut shame, rachel emerged as a fearless voice of the american female experience. On her new full-length album cycles, she has found a grittier musical medium for her signature unabashed and defiant songwriting, employing a majority-female team.

Pre-concert lecture at 6:30 pm with dr. Alyson mclamore
This program celebrates the quintet in all of its forms. Pianist stewart goodyear joins forces with a string quartet for hummel’s piano quintet; a string trio joins harp and flute for francaix’s quintet; and we close with beethoven’s only piece originally conceived for a string quintet. Also on the program is a rhythmic and lyrical duet for violin and soprano by villa-lobos.

Join the festival musicians for this annual concert presenting mozart and more in our historic mission san luis obispo de tolosa. The program includes mozart's d major viola quintet, ginastera's impresiones de la puna for flute and strings, and dvorák's only string sextet. The winds also get a chance to shine in poulenc's sonata for clarinet and bassoon.

4:00 pm - Chamber Concert 3: Mission San Miguel
Pre-Concert Lecture at 3:00 PM with Dr. Alyson McLamore
After a five-year hiatus, Festival Mozaic is proud to return to Mission San Miguel Arcángel for an afternoon showcasing chamber music for piano and strings. Pianists Stewart Goodyear and John Novacek will lead works by Fauré and Brahms. Opening the program is a unique piece by American composer Henry Cowell which features Iranian rhythms in the drum.

7:30 pm - Chamber Concert 4: A Soldier's Tale
Pre-Concert Lecture at 6:30 PM with Dr. Alyson McLamore
The 2023 Chamber Concert series comes to a close with a semi-staged performance of A Soldier's Tale, Stravinsky’s rhythmic setting of a cautionary story about a soldier who trades his fiddle to the devil. John Novacek opens the concert with Rachmaninoff’s march-like prelude for solo piano, which will be followed by Borodin’s cello quintet, one of the earliest Russian chamber works to feature nationalist themes.
