Exhibition - Eva Melady's Birds at Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Arts and Entertainment

January 19, 2023

From: Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Eva Melady, as the special instructor in watercolor flower painting at Brooklyn Botanic Garden from 1955 to 1981, was commissioned to paint a series of birds commonly found on the grounds.

This exhibit explores Melady’s birds along with related works by Brooklyn Botanic Garden Florilegium Society artists including Francesca Anderson and Judith Kunhardt.

Through looking at the work of these and other women at the intersection of art and science, the exhibit probes the past of natural history illustration and considers the roles of women in the field.
