From: Eli Whitney Museum And WorkshopThe main parking lot is closed.
We are excited to announce that our bioswale and rain garden construction will begin this month! In collaboration with GNWPCA, the project will take place in the parking lot in front of the main building. The bioswale will use engineered solutions to capture stormwater and runoff to filter pollutants and prevent them from entering the Mill River.
Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates thoughtfully designed the landscape plan, focusing on native species. The plan also includes plants that encourage pollinators as well as ones that are more resilient to a changing climate. Red Maple and Black Gum trees will replace the existing diseased Ash trees.
As a result, the main parking lot is closed for the month of September. Parking is available at the Carter Studio and across the street at the Barn. Access to the trails is still available via the sidewalk. Please note that we will remain open on the weekends for walk-in projects!
Thank you for a wonderful summer!
This summer has been full of creativity, experiments, and exploration. We are grateful as always to our apprentices, campers, families, and staff for your support. This year we provided more scholarships for students than ever before.
