Apprentice News: The Apprentice Train

This month, we are excited to highlight the Apprentice Train, which begins with reading a technical drawing. Each apprentice is trained to use the drill press, bandsaw, various hand tools, and more. They also learn how to find the center of a circle. Throughout this training, they gain valuable skills such as how to measure with accuracy and plan thoughtfully as they construct a finished model train.

This process forces them to slow down—no phones are allowed! The trains are now popular walk-in and birthday projects.

What's up at the Whitney Workshop?

Professional Development: Yale Furniture Study

The Eli Whitney Museum & Workshop builds furniture of all sizes—from miniature dollhouse accouterments to Adirondack chairs. We proudly invest in the continued education of our staff.

On October 6, staff visited the Leslie P. and George H. Hume American Furniture Study Center at Yale's West Campus to view the study's working library of more than 1,300 pieces of furniture, clocks, and wooden objects from the seventeenth century to the present. This visit inspired new programming at the Eli Whitney Museum & Workshop.
