From: Eastman School Of MusicEastman School of Music, at the University of Rochester, announces the new Advanced Diploma in Concertmaster Studies, providing intensive and focused study with Juliana Athayde, Associate Professor of Violin and Concertmaster for the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO). The Advanced Diploma, open for current applications and to begin in Fall 2024, includes intensive study of solo and orchestral repertoire in lessons, and the program culminates in a mock audition capstone project where students are held to the expectations and qualities of a professional audition. Additionally, students will serve as leaders of Eastman ensembles, pursue significant professional performance opportunities, shadow Professor Athayde in her role as concertmaster of the RPO and receive individual mentorship as they prepare for their careers.
“I am thrilled with this opportunity to work with Eastman violinists preparing to embark on their careers as leaders in the orchestral world,” shares Athayde. “It’s gratifying to be able to share the insights I have learned over the past twenty years as a professional concertmaster. This unique and innovative program will provide students with a real-world understanding of what goes into this multifaceted career path.”
This program provides rigorous study in the areas of orchestral playing, audition preparation and execution, and leadership training, both on- and offstage. The curriculum is designed to prepare the most highly qualified candidates for a career as concertmaster of a professional orchestra and can be completed in one year of full-time study.
