The Parks Team is excited to share our goals with you and invites you to share your thoughts about our vision for the new year. You're welcome to attend either event:

Tuesday, January 10 from 6 PM - 8 PM at the Ike Owings Community Center at Hunter Park 8830 Gurley Road Douglasville, GA 30134

Saturday, January 14 from 9 AM - 5 PM at the Hawthorne Community Center at Jessie Davis Park (7775 Malone St. Douglasville, GA 30134). Stop by anytime between 9 AM - 5 PM to participate.

ATHLETICS

Inaugural Spring 2023 Adaptive Basketball
Registration closes January 28

This semi-competitive program will teach basic basketball skills and drills for individuals with diverse abilities. Each week, players will learn sportsmanship, teamwork, basketball skills and improve their cognitive and social skills. Registration is open to ages 7+ and the cost is $30 for a 5 week program. The fee covers the jersey, individual picture, and end of season celebration.

Adult Softball
Registration closes February 24

Registration is open for Spring Adult Softball. Grab your team and join the 2023 Hunter Park Adult Spring Softball league. Register by March 3 HERE. There is a free agent option but it's recommended that you join as a team. Our Athletics Division can be reached at 770-920-3007 or visit our website to register your team today! All games are at Hunter Park.

Adult Men’s Basketball
Registration closes March 2

Calling all basketball players to join our Spring 2023 season. Teams or free agents can register. The price is $350 per team and all games are Sundays at the Alice J. Hawthorne Community Center.

Recreation Programs

Partner Program: Stay on Pointe Dance Academy

Stay on Pointe Dance Academy is offering dance classes for ages 3-9.

Tiny Dancers Ballet Class is for dancers ages 3-4 and will teach basic ballet techniques and terminology along with body alignment and grace.

Ballet I is a "step up" from the Tiny Dancers class. Students develop rhythm, flexibility, coordination, and confidence while learning ballet vocabulary.

Youth Hip Hop Fitness is an active class where students will learn fun and creative dance moves while having social interaction with their peers. This is an inclusive class for all youth between the ages of 6-9.

D'Ville Fit

Every Saturday in February from 10 AM - 11 AM at the Ike Owings Community Center at Hunter Park

Are you looking to jumpstart the new year with a fitness goal? Wanting to workout and have fun while doing so? The D'Ville Fit program is for you!

This program is designed to equip adults with the knowledge and skills to be physically active. No equipment is needed! Just bring YOU and meet us at the Ike Owings Community Center at Hunter Park (8830 Gurley Rd. Douglasville, GA 30134) every Saturday in February from 10 AM-11 AM.

Financial Workshop
January 21 Topic: Insurance

This free workshop is open to anyone who would like to learn more about financial literacy and feel empowered with their finances. Our January 21 class will be held at the Alice J. Hawthorne Community Center from 10 AM -1 PM. The first topic will cover insurance. Register HERE or call 770-920-3007.

Events & Activities

Kids Day Off “Holiday Edition” Camp

Monday, February 20 - Friday, February 24 from 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM at the Ike Owings Community Center

They’re out of school again?! Well, that’s okay! Bundle up with us for Winter Break Camp! The Kids Day Off: Winter Break Camp is for children ages 5 to 12. This week-long program is loaded with education, inspiration, and socialization. With around-the-clock fun and crafts like Build-A-Quilt, your child may never want to go home! Field trip is included within price. Lunch is not provided for break camp. Registration closes February 6th HERE.

Therapeutic Recreation: Sweetheart Dance

Friday, February 3 from 6 PM - 8 PM at the Ike Owings Community Center

Our 2nd Annual Sweetheart Dance is an inclusive party and a therapeutic recreation program for individuals with disabilities, along with their families and friends. All are welcome to attend an evening of games, music, and fun. We will have Valentine’s treats and theme activities. Invite a friend! This is a free event. Please register HERE.

An Evening Celebration of Love and Black History 

Friday, February 24 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Alice J. Hawthorne Community Center
