In Congress, Reichert voted against raising the minimum wage, opting instead to cut taxes for big corporations. Now, he supports defunding education, health care, transportation and other critical services.
Seattle, WA -- Corporate lobbyist Dave Reichert has a long history of protecting the interests of big corporations and the ultra-wealthy, while leaving working families behind. From his time in Congress and working as a lobbyist to his support for the Washington GOP’s deceptive ballot initiatives this year, it’s clear that Reichert has no interest in lowering costs for the hardworking families who need it most.
As voters fill out their ballots this and next week, here’s a reminder of how Reichert has betrayed working families time and again:
IN CONGRESS, REICHERT GAVE HANDOUTS TO BIG CORPORATIONS AND THE ULTRA-WEALTHY. THEN HE BECAME A CORPORATE LOBBYIST.
Reichert made sure big corporations and the ultra-rich never had to pay their fair share. In Congress, he co-sponsored the Trump Tax Scam, giving wealthy families and big corporations a major tax break and leaving working families to pay the price. According to experts, this increased incentives for companies to move jobs overseas and raised health care premiums by hundreds of dollars.
When given the opportunity to help working families put more money in their pocket, Reichert repeatedly voted against increasing the federal minimum wage, showing just how out of step he is with Washingtonians. Reichert also blocked and voted against efforts to invest in early childhood education, including child care.
After Congress, Reichert continued to work for special interests, becoming a corporate lobbyist for a company whose product he now shamelessly promotes in his plans for governor.
NOW, REICHERT WANTS TO DEFUND EDUCATION, TRANSPORTATION, CLEAN AIR PROGRAMS, AND AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE INVESTMENTS
Reichert has made it clear that he backs the Washington GOP’s deceptive initiatives on voters’ ballots this election. Backed by the state GOP’s hedge fund bankroller, Brian Heywood, these initiatives would cut billions of dollars in funding for good paying jobs, affordable long-term health care, transportation and clean energy programs, education, and more.
Reichert also told The Seattle Times he supports a private voucher system, which would defund public schools by diverting public tax dollars to unaccountable private schools. Reichert’s position threatens parents’ ability to set their children up for a successful future, as well as Washington’s future economic competitiveness as a state.
