From: Cleveland MetroparksApproximately 2-miles of new natural surface trails offer spectacular views of Chippewa Creek Valley
Cleveland Metroparks today celebrated the grand opening of approximately two miles of natural surface trails in Brecksville Reservation. The new White Oak Trail Loop weaves through the hillsides and mature oak hickory forests of the reservation leading to the new My Mountain Trail Overlook that offers spectacular views of the Chippewa Creek Valley.
The new loop trail complex connects to the Oak Grove Picnic Area and Plateau Picnic Area. The trails were designed and constructed entirely in-house by Cleveland Metroparks’ trails division and made possible by generous donor support.
“Thanks to the support of generous donors, this new trail complex including the My Mountain Trail Overlook expands and restores a decades-old trail, inviting visitors to better explore some of the most scenic areas of Cleveland Metroparks’ largest reservation,” said Cleveland Metroparks CEO Brian M. Zimmerman.
The new trail complex restores and expands one of Brecksville Reservation’s original trails, the former White Oak Trail and portions of the Buckeye Trail. Formerly a one-way out-and-back trail, the new White Oak Trail Loop takes visitors off the flat ridge above the valley and into the scenic ravines. Seven wooden crossing structures, 300 feet of boardwalk and over 1,000 tons of stone surfacing allow for natural drainage of the area and will help the trail withstand weather events through all seasons. The trail culminates with the My Mountain Trail that leads to a signature overlook that looks down over the deep valley below.
The opening follows a series of trail enhancements to Brecksville Reservation including the Gorge Loop trail that opened in 2021, restoration to two additional portions of the Buckeye Trail as well as the Valley Parkway Connector Trail that was completed in 2019. Cleveland Metroparks also added the Andrews Nature Play Area in 2021 as well as the Trailside Program Center and upgraded restrooms in 2018.
