Governor Kelly Ayotte declares January 28, 2025 as Christa McAuliffe Day

WHEREAS, Christa McAuliffe, a dedicated teacher from Concord, New Hampshire, inspired the world with her passion for education, exploration, and the pursuit of knowledge, becoming the first private citizen selected for spaceflight through NASA's Teacher in Space program; and,

WHEREAS, on January 28, 1986, Christa McAuliffe and six other crew members of the Space Shuttle Challenger tragically lost their lives in the service of exploration and discovery, leaving behind a legacy of courage, determination, and an enduring commitment to the advancement of science and education; and,

WHEREAS, Christa McAuliffe's legacy continues to inspire countless educators, students, and citizens in New Hampshire and beyond, embodying the Granite State's spirit of resilience, innovation, and the belief that education is a powerful tool for creating a better future; and,

WHEREAS, the Christa McAuliffe Planetarium, now part of the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center in Concord, and the Christa McAuliffe memorial statue on the ground of the New Hampshire State House, stands as a tribute to her life and mission, inspiring generations to look to the stars and dream of possibilities beyond our reach; and,

WHEREAS, Christa McAuliffe's words, "I touch the future, I teach," remain a powerful reminder of the impact of educators and the importance of fostering curiosity, creativity, and a sense of wonder in every child;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, KELLY AYOTTE, GOVERNOR of the State of New Hampshire, do hereby proclaim JANUARY 28, 2025 as CHRISTA MCAULIFFE DAY in the State of New Hampshire, and encourage all citizens to honor the legacy of Christa McAuliffe by celebrating the importance of education, exploration, and the unyielding spirit of discovery that she exemplified.
