From: Chinese Culture Center of San FranciscoCelebrating CCC: Expanding the Boundaries of Community and Contemporary Art
Happy Asian American Pacific Islander American Heritage Month. We are honored to join community and arts organizations forging diverse Asian American narratives. This year, we are celebrating a major milestone: the 10-year anniversary of 41 Ross.
From its humble origins as a vacant storefront and tofu shop, 41 Ross has become a cultural center in Chinatown, revitalizing the community through radical art, and transforming the alley into a bustling destination. 41 Ross also represents an unprecedented collaboration between a contemporary art center and a neighborhood development organization.
41 Ross’s success is a result of our community’s unwavering support and collaboration. We’re just getting started on this transformative journey.
We invite you to participate in our Give in May fundraising campaign. The CCC Board will match up to $10,000 of donations. We appreciate your support!
Envisioning the "Chinese Queer Museum" Prototype
Building on the momentum from the opening reception of 41 Ross’s Artist-In-Residence, OUT | ? | MUSEUM by Xiangqi Chen, we are thrilled to unveil a series of artist-led programming for the "Chinese Queer Museum" prototype:
Book Talk & Pop-Up with Author Curtis Chin
Curtis Chin, filmmaker, activist, and writer, joins us 1PM, May 25th to discuss his memoir - a coming of age story about his journey through 1980's Detroit as he navigated rising xenophobia, the AIDS epidemic, and the Reagan Revolution — all set against the backdrop of his family's popular Chinese restaurant.
San Francisco Public Library will be at the event with complimentary copies of Chin’s book, along with other titles curated to align with the CCC's ongoing OUT | ? | Museum exhibition. More details to follow.
Chinese LGBTQ+ Movement Activists Talk
Join us for the inaugural event of the OUT | ? | MUSEUM: Queer Stage Series, "Chinese LGBTQ+ Movement Activists Talk'' 2pm, May 11th, where we will bring together three influential queer activists; Damien Lu, Raymond Phang, and our 41 Ross Artist-in-Residence, Xiangqi Chen.
Our panelists will delve into the insights and experiences of LGBTQ+ movements in China, tracing their evolution from the past to the present and looking toward the future.
