From: Chinese Culture Center of San FranciscoIgniting Change: Resistance, Legacy and Future of Immigrant Stories
For over 150 years, Chinatown has stood as a beacon of safety, resilience, and resistance for immigrants, a symbol of the American Dream in the face of racism. This March, CCC joins a coalition of community partners to highlight the story of Wong Kim Ark and the ongoing fight for immigrant rights during Wong Kim Ark Week.
As an arts institution, CCC recognizes the power of artists to tell our stories, challenge xenophobic narratives, and imagine a more inclusive future. In a time marked by federal cuts and the rollback of civil and human rights, Wong Kim Ark serves as a powerful reminder of Chinatown's pivotal role in securing the landmark Supreme Court victory for birthright citizenship for all.
Chinatown remains a vital center in leading Wong Kim Ark Week (March 24-27). We invite you to engage and show your support by joining us for a special Chinatown History & Art Tour (C.H.A.T.) on March 27. This tour will include a stop at the Asian Americans Community Heroes Mural (2022), recently featured in NPR, KQED, and the San Francisco Examiner. CCC is proud to partner with Chinese for Affirmative Action (CAA) and other local organizations throughout the week, and we encourage you to participate in all the events.
As we celebrate CCC’s 60th anniversary, art continues to be at the forefront of elevating stories, building community, and boldly advocating for immigrants, LGBTQ+ individuals, and civil rights for all. We invite you to support and join us in this transformative movement.

This month, we are proud to spotlight artist Chelsea Ryoko Wong. Featured in the CCC’s WOMEN??: From Her to Here exhibit in 2021, highlighting queer stories of San Francisco and Chinatown, Wong’s work is currently on display at the OMCA as part of Ancestral Visions (Feb 7, 2025 - Feb 1, 2026) and featured at Jessica Silverman’s gallery. Wong’s vibrant and energetic paintings celebrate the diversity of San Francisco and the richness of everyday life, drawing inspiration from both real-life events and her imagination. Her colorful compositions—using watercolor, gouache, and acrylics—reflect joy, acceptance, and a deep connection to her community, while honoring the legacies of Chinese American women.
Price: $26.00
