Charleston County Public Library (CCPL)'s Annual Impact Report for Fiscal Year 2023 (July 1, 2022-June 30, 2023) is now available. The report highlights how the system continues to grow and evolve into a modern library and service hub that has a lasting impact on its surrounding community. Highlights include:
- CCPL was rated a 5-star library by Library Journal and is the only 5-star library in SC, NC, GA and FL.
- 832,000 patrons visited CCPL's 18 branches during the fiscal year. An increase of 36% over the previous period.
- 186,000 connections were made to the free public Wi-Fi at CCPL branches, showcasing a growing need for accessible connectivity in Charleston.
- CCPL Outreach visited over 1,000 senior citizens at 80 senior centers throughout the County, giving them access to library resources and services outside of the branches. This is an increase of 345% from the previous fiscal year!
- Inside branches, 81,000 patrons attended over 4,000 programs and events.
- Patrons made nearly 1,500 meeting room bookings and over 8,000 notary service appointments at branches, spotlighting libraries as community hubs offering more than just books.
- CCPL's Summer Reading Program, which promotes literacy to children, teens and adults during the summer months, grew by 32% in active participants compared to 2022.
- CCPL launched a new children's Storytime format that led to a 65% increase in Storytime attendance over the previous fiscal year.
- CCPL distributed 16,000 pounds of produce through its Free and Fresh Community Fridge program, and a combined 32,597 free meals and snacks to kids and teens through Summer Feeding and Kids Cafe.
