GILDED AGE CHRISTMAS CRAFT WORKSHOPS
Sunday, November 26 at 10am & 12:30pm

In the Gilded Age, American families who celebrated Christmas made most of their decorations by hand, and the Clemens family was no exception. In this workshop, we'll show you how to make four different Gilded Age Christmas decorations just like the ones you would have seen in this home! 

Tickets are $10.00 and include all the materials needed to make four different crafts!

Recommended for ages 6 and up. All children should be accompanied by an adult. If you just want to help your child make the crafts you can select an "Adult Helper" ticket for free, but "Helper" tickets do not include a materials package.

CHRISTMAS CHARITY IN THE GILDED AGE: A Lecture Program
Sunday, November 26 at 2pm

“Great baskets with the feet of turkeys protruding below blankets of flowers and fruit.”

As Clara Clemens recalled years later, one of the most important Christmas traditions for the Clemens family was assembling and delivering baskets of food and gifts to poor families in Hartford. This program explores the family’s charitable efforts in historic context: increasing prosperity for some, increasing poverty for many more, and a society torn over what to do about it.

HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS: A Living History Experience
Sunday, November 26 at 3pm, 4pm & 5pm

The year is 1889—Mark Twain's family is at home, busily preparing for the holiday season: decorations, gift baskets, dinner parties, and rehearsal for an original play, written by Mark Twain’s eldest daughter! Ready your calling cards and pay a visit to the family and their friends in this 75-minute immersive theatrical experience, performed inside the historic Mark Twain House (includes 15 minutes in the Cellar Exhibit, exclusive to Living History tours).

The experience will move from room to room, led by characters as the story progresses. Costumed actors will interact with audience members and encourage audience participation throughout.

Please note that this experience takes visitors through the 1st floor and cellar of The Mark Twain House--the upper floors and kitchen are not included.
