Carter, who has supported Trump’s tariffs at every turn, voted in March to give Trump unilateral authority to impose them
As pressure mounts on the U.S. retail sector to raise prices to blunt the impacts of Donald Trump’s disastrous tariffs, Trump responded by ratcheting up the rhetoric against them — demanding they eat the cost of his tariffs.
“Buddy Carter has cheered for Donald Trump’s tariffs at every turn, saying they’ll usher in ‘a golden age’ even as they threaten to devastate both the small businesses and the shipping industry that are the heartbeat of his district,” said DPG spokesperson Alex Yerkey. “Since Carter has caved to Trump at the expense of Georgians at every turn and is now asking for a promotion, Georgia voters need to know that Buddy Carter stands in lockstep with Trump’s reckless tariffs, even as small businesses shoulder the cost.”
Walmart officials warned of price hikes last week, saying that “given the magnitude of the tariffs, even at the reduced levels announced this week, we aren’t able to absorb all the pressure given the reality of narrow retail margins.”
Georgia Republicans, including those who have either announced bids for the U.S. Senate or are considering a run in 2026, have endorsed Trump’s tariffs.
In March, Rich McCormick, Mike Collins, and Buddy Carter voted to give the president the unilateral ability to impose tariffs. Carter said the tariffs would bring about “a golden age” while Georgia Insurance Commissioner John King praised Trump for having the “courage” to impose the tariffs, saying “I support it.”
