From: Beaman Memorial Public LibraryOur beloved Head of Children’s Services, Ms. Sue Smith will be retiring at the end of September. She has worked at our Library for the past 26 years and has been the leader of our Children’s Department for the past 12. Please give a warm welcome to Ms. Sandie Kelly who has been with us for eight years, and will be our new Head of Children’s Services. Many of you already know Ms. Sandie. She runs our morning Mother Goose on the Loose program for young children, is the mastermind behind our take-it-make-it craft kits, and also worked on the adult floor as a cataloger and craft program planner. We are so excited to welcome her in this new capacity.
Additionally, after 12 years at Beaman Library, seven years as Director, Anna will also be saying farewell to our Library.

ON GOING PROGRAMMING PROGRAMMING FOR KIDS
ONGOING EARLY LITERACY PROGRAMS
As we approach the fall and families are getting back into the swing of the school year, we look forward to ramping up our early literacy programming for the youngest patrons. These programs are not only opportunities for parents, caregivers, and children to enjoy each other’s company, but to meet new friends. We introduce children to music, movement, rhymes, instruments, books, and so much more.
- Books and Blankies is for children 18 months-3 years old. They will learn some sign language songs, play with the parachute, hear a story, sing some educational songs, dance, and make a simple craft.
- Books and Blankies Senior is for children 4-5 years old. This program will focus more heavily on pre-Kindergarten skills. We are once again holding this class in the Story Hour Room which will enable the children to participate on their own without their parent or caregiver helping. This will enhance their independence and encourage them to challenge themselves.
- Mother Goose is for babies and toddlers up to 18-months old. This gentle early literacy program introduces babies to simple songs, fingerplay, lap bounce songs, board books, and instrument play. It is the perfect way to get parents to meet others, learn to be a role model for reading, and have fun with their little ones.
The schedule runs in 6-week intervals as follows:A cartoon of a girl and her teddy bear reading a book.
