Four Brand New Large-Scale Artworks
Now On View
With inspirations ranging from the Hubble Space Telescope to the Buddhist stupa, take a closer look at our newest large-scale contemporary sculptures and commissioned installations during your next visit.
Ala Ebtekar
Imprinting handmade clay tiles with a vast image of the cosmos taken by the Hubble Space Telescope, Ala Ebtekar gives a contemporary nod to the polychrome tiles used in traditional Persian architecture to represent the heavens.
Kongkee
A crowd favorite in Kongkee’s 2022 Warring States Cyberpunk exhibition, Taotie refers to aphorisms warning against vanity and pride; such pictographic messages were often inscribed on ancient Chinese bronze vessels.
Pinaree Sanpitak
Sanpitak explores the morphology of the stupa a Buddhist commemorative monument — with curvilinear lines executed in polished stainless steel to define the space of the stupa as a form that also echoes the female breast.
Dave Young Kim
Drawing inspiration from the Joseon dynasty, Dave Young Kim reimagines the tiger and magpie — a beloved and meaningful Korean motif. Find this large mural on your way in to the museum at the Lui Art Wall on Hyde Street.
