Spring is bursting forth, bringing all shades of green to the once gray winter view. Artworks@7th Gallery located in North Beach MD will present the theme Trees in celebration of the \rich natural environment of Southern Maryland.

The Trees Show is a collaboration between Mike Smawley and Maria Birnkammer. Both acrylic artists find themselves drawn to the beauty and solemnity of trees. Mike says, “They’re everywhere, but I never get tired of looking at them.”  He successfully captures his study of them through his classic detailed acrylic landscapes, as shown in First Light and Brook. Maria enjoys the abstract quality of trees and prefers to focus on the lines and colors, as seen in Spring and Winter Blues.

In support of their love of the natural world around them, Mike and Maria have partnered with the American Chestnut Land Trust (ACLT) to share a portion of their profits. Please check out the ACLT at www.acltweb.org.

Our Guest artist this month is Diane Preus. Painting has always been a source of creativity and enjoyment for her.  Upon retirement, the study of the watercolor medium became the major focus of her art for several years through private lessons and numerous workshops.  Recently she’s incorporated a variety of other media into her studio including acrylics, casein, gouache, cold wax and oil, pastel and collage.

Please join us at the opening reception on Saturday, May 6, 1- 4 PM where you’ll have a chance to meet the artists; light refreshments will be served and, weather permitting, live musicians will be on site to liven up the event.
