New York, NY – The Morgan Library & Museum announces its 2024-2025 concert season of Music at the Morgan that celebrates the intersection of art, literature, and music with engaging concerts inspired by its collections and exhibitions.

This year, to celebrate the exhibition Belle da Costa Greene: A Librarian’s Legacy, soprano Candice Hoyes will perform works ranging from opera to jazz that highlight aspects of Greene’s life and work. Skylark Vocal Ensemble with narrator Christine Baranski will perform a musical rendition of Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol, while the original manuscript is on view in the historic library. The Morgan will also present two composers in focus, diving deep into the creative processes of composers Philip Glass and Fanny Mendelssohn, with performances accompanied by lectures and films, respectively.

Early music concerts feature Boston Early Music Festival Vocal & Chamber Ensembles’s concert version of Georg Philipp Telemann’s Don Quichotte; and Francesco Corti offers an evening of Harpsichord Suites featuring works by George Frideric Handel and Johann Sebastian Bach. The Paris-based Modigliani Quartet presents a repertoire of Romantic and twentieth century music; the season showcases a new generation of musicians through partnerships with the George and Nora London Foundation for Singers and Young Concert Artists.

The Morgan also welcomes Brandon Patrick George this season as its Music Consultant. George will implement the 2024-2025 season while organizing the 2025-2026 season. A world-class flautist, George is a member of Imani Winds, receiving a 2024 Grammy® Award for his work with the celebrated wind quintet. As a performer of work dating from the seventeenth century to today, George has conceived gallery performances for numerous exhibitions at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. He has appeared as a soloist with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, the Albany Symphony Orchestra, and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, among others, and has performed with ensembles such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. George’s solo discography includes Twofold (In a Circle Records, 2023), featuring works by C.P.E. Bach, Crawford- Seeger, Debussy, Esmail, Haddad, Okpebholo, and Takemitsu, as well as Flute Sonatas and Solo Works (Ha?nssler Classic, 2020), presenting powerful works by Aho, Bach, Boulez, and Prokofiev.

A proud product of public arts education, George draws on his personal experience as the foundation for his programming and education efforts today. He has worked at New York Public Radio’s WQXR developing new programming, including a live stream for new music. With Imani Winds he initiated a six-month residency at the Harlem School for the Arts, where the group mentored young musicians and commissioned new works. George continues to perform outreach concerts for school children every year, and mentors conservatory musicians of color through the process of pursuing their performance careers. George has also been on the faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music and the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity.

All concerts will take place live at the Morgan.
