American Lung Association News - You Can Make Living with Asthma Easier

Health and Fitness

May 21, 2025

Asthma doesn’t always look the way people expect. Sometimes it’s a child sitting out at recess. Other times, it’s an adult catching their breath at the grocery store.

This Asthma Awareness Month we want to highlight one powerful truth: No one living with asthma should feel alone.

Across the country, people are sharing their experiences on how they’ve overcome setbacks, found treatments that work and discovered the confidence to live actively.

Like Joy, who spent her childhood on the sidelines but now plays team sports, bikes and kayaks in her 50s. Or Chandra, who’s faced medication challenges but now manages her symptoms and lives life on her terms. Or Katelyn, who grew up having asthma with her brother and now shares everything she’s learned to help others breathe easier.

Behind each of these journeys is a network of education, resources and support that helps make it all possible. Every story is different, but the message is the same: with the right care and trusted information, living fully with asthma is possible.

Your support fuels free, trusted programs like Asthma Basics, Open Airways for Schools and Breathe Well, Live Well®, designed to help parents, teachers, caregivers and healthcare providers better understand asthma and manage it with confidence. These programs change lives, and with your help, they can reach even more people.
