What Happened on June 6, 1904?
On June 6, 1904—120 years ago this month—the American Lung Association was founded as the National Association for the Study and Prevention of Tuberculosis, the first voluntary health organization in the U.S.
Join us in celebrating 120 years of impact, and learn more about the ways we have improved public health from 1904 to the present day.

Asthma Increases Risk for Pneumococcal Pneumonia
It might surprise you, but adults 65 and older aren’t the only ones at risk for pneumococcal pneumonia. Adults 19 – 64 living with certain underlying health conditions, including asthma, are also at increased risk.
Most people also don’t know that pneumococcal pneumonia is responsible for an estimated 150,000 hospitalizations per year.
