Edward Yang: An American Cinematheque Retrospective
January 19, 2024 - January 28, 2024
Aero Theatre and Egyptian Theatre
The American Cinematheque is honored to pay tribute to filmmaker Edward Yang, a pioneer of the Taiwanese New Wave, whose films employ a realist visual style, unconventional narrative structures, and nonprofessional actors to create an intimate and grounded reflection of society in Taiwan.
Our retrospective includes the West Coast premieres of the 4K restorations of A CONFUCIAN CONFUSION and MAHJONG, along with his celebrated classics – from his sprawling 1994 epic A BRIGHTER SUMMER DAY; his mournful anatomy of Taiwan in TAIPEI STORY and the anthological IN OUR TIME to the multigenerational family drama YI YI, for which Yang received the Best Director Award at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival.

Cinematic Void Presents 'January Giallo'
January 1 - January 29, 2024
Egyptian Theatre and Aero Theatre
Every January, Cinematic Void likes to pour a glass of J&B whiskey, sharpen their straight razor, and slip on those black gloves to celebrate their favorite horror sub-genre, the Giallo.
Throughout the seventies, Sergio Martino, along with Dario Argento, Lucio Fulci, Luciano Ercoli, Aldo Lado, and many more made several visually stunning and viscerally violent cinematic excursions which sometimes take some wild turns mingling with occult, Gothic horror, Poliziotteschi, and psychedelia elements.
Films Include: TORSO, STRANGE VICE OF MRS WARDH, YOUR VICE IS A LOCKED ROOM AND ONLY I HAVE THE KEY, THE PSYCHIC, THE KILLER IS STILL AMONG US, AMUCK and STONE COLD DEAD
