Moments ago, the Trump Administration released a memorandum targeting ActBlue — a nonprofit fundraising platform that empowers thousands of campaigns, nonprofits, and millions of community organizations in America.

Make no mistake: the purpose of this probe is for Trump to attack and silence his political opponents. Instead of addressing the problem of “straw donations” that affects both parties, Trump is only targeting a specific app used by Democrats. The Supreme Court has already affirmed that political donations are a form of free speech, protected under the First Amendment.

Instead of protecting that right, this President is weaponizing the law to silence one of the largest political platforms in the country. When Trump tries to shut down the act of giving, he’s telling millions of Americans to sit down, shut up, or else.

From the streets of Selma to the classrooms of Little Rock, Americans have always stood up to bullies. Armed with the Constitution and driven by love of country, we’ve defended our freedoms time and again. After all, the oldest American tradition is speaking out against tyranny.
